Summer is upon us, which for many people means backyard barbeques and wedding season.
Often times there is a lot of drinking of adult beverages at these events and since the current recommendation is zero alcohol during pregnancy many people feel left out if they are expecting.
If you are looking to put something in your hand that seems more appealing than another bottle of water here are five recipes that are full of flavor and customizable.
Assorted fruit thinly sliced (think orange, lime, apple, pear, lemon)
¾ cup of apple juice
½ cup of orange juice
3 cups of cranberry-raspberry juice
2-3 cups of sparkling water or club soda
Combine fruit slices and fruit juices for a minimum of 1 hour. Before serving add the sparkling water or club soda. Fruit selection and juices can be modified to suit your tastes.
8-10 large mint leaves
½ cup of sugar
3 cups sparkling water
Juice the limes to get about ¾ cup of lime juice. Chop the mint leaves and then crush them with a pestle or the back of a spoon to start releasing their oil. Then add the sugar and crush the sugar and mint leaves together. Add the lime juice and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved. Add the sparking water right before serving over ice. You can add the lime halves that you have remaining from juicing the limes to the pitcher if you like.
Fruit and Sherbet Punch
2 liters of lemon lime soda
1 gallon of fruit juice
2 pints of sherbet
Mix the soda and fruit juice and then float the sherbet on top. This is a favorite of kids and adults!
Virgin Bay Breeze
Lime wedge for garish
Just mix the cranberry juice and pineapple juice. Super simple and easy to make!
2 parts orange juice
3 parts sparkling white grape juice
First pour orange juice into your champagne flute and then add your white grape juice.
Other options include mixing fruit juice with sparkling water, pre-packaged non-alcoholic beverages, and non-alcoholic mixers.
Sometimes just adding your drink to a fancy glass can give it a whole new appeal.
