Don't Fear the Blank Page

Blank page

January comes and everything is talking about goals, resolutions, and blank pages.

It’s a nice thought, a new start, the ability to become anything, fresh clean, full of promise.

It can be scary too.

The blank page itself isn’t scary. What can bring fear is what happens once you start making marks on that page. What will happen if you start making marks and then decide that it isn’t the right path for you? Have you ruined it forever, it will never be the same fresh page you started with. What will others think when you decide to change the story you were writing for yourself?

Will they see someone who gave up….

Or

Will they see someone who was strong enough to realize their original plan wasn’t working and decided to course correct?

Your doula is there is support any decision you make. Your doula is there to support changes to your decision too. You should never feel like you need to apologize to your doula for changing your mind and making different choices for yourself and your family.

We know it is hard to predict how anything is going to go in pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. Really it is hard to predict most anything in life.

You know what is best for you and your family. No one else.

Don’t fear the blank page. Open up to it and embrace it. Your story may need some editing. It may not end the way you originally thought it would.

Blank pages before you with courage

We all edit our stories along the way. We all can use some unwavering support in our corner to help us through the bumps and curves.
