Surprising Effects of Gratitude

Gratitude

It is something we hear a lot about during this time of year. Thanksgiving seems to made thankfulness and gratitude come to the front of people’s minds in November. How many people do you see doing 30 days of gratitude on Facebook every November?

Can I let you in on a secret?

We need gratitude all months of the year. I have found gratitude transformational in my life.

The simple act of keeping a Gratitude Journal has been found to help with people fall asleep quicker and have a more restful sleep, reduce reported pain, increase happiness, and many other effects. The best part is it only takes 5 minutes a day.

Here is the simple process:

Right before bed:

Get a pen and paper – writing it down is important, the effects are still seen if you just think about what you are grateful for but writing it down amplifies the effects.

Write down 5 things you are grateful for

Do not repeat things, make each day unique

This simple exercise is not always easy, when the aches and pains of pregnancy are wearing you down or you haven’t slept in 3 days tending to your newborn it is easy to focus on all the bad things around you. However, taking 5 minutes to recount the things you are grateful for can have a profound effect. Take a bad point and see if there is something you can be grateful for out of it.

Want to know what we are grateful for here at Crossroads Birth Services? We are grateful for those who have trained us and encouraged us in our business.
